(for contact details see opportunities or bookings).February 2011Work is underway to prepare the site for the 2011 camping season. Trevor and Clive would love to hear from anyone who would like to help.A Review of 2010 2010 was a good year for the campsite with 2 district level camps and many group camps. The caving centre proved popular with visiting groups. Work Party - 18th April 2009Dear All,
Please pass on our thanks to everyone of your members who came along and helped on the day and keep your eyes on the web site as we hope to post details of the next working day soon. Best wishes Clive & Trevor Clive Buckle & Trevor Banks Buckmore Park Site Managers News March 2009We shall be organising a working day at Buckmore Park on Saturday the 18th April to finish getting the sites ready for the new camping season. It would be really great if you were able to come along and help us with members of your Group, Unit, Troop, or Pack; Young People will need to be under the care and control of an adult leader as we shall be busy working as well. We intend to start the day at 10 am and finish at 4 pm. If there is a particular project you wish to be involved with or a specific task you wish to do in order to complete any badge work then please let us know in advance. Likewise please let us know if there are any jobs that you particularly do not want to get involved with. It would be good to know that you are going to attend and with an approximate number of people you may be bringing along, together with their ages (simply what Section they belong to will do) so that we can gauge the response and try to prioritise tasks for the day. Please circulate amongst your Sections and Leaders to ensure that the maximum numbers of people are aware of the day and we hope to see many of you, and your young people there on the day. Please bring along weapons such as rakes (for leave clearing) shovels (for muck & rubble clearing) and wheel barrows (for rubbish shifting) if at all possible, as our resources are very limited. It is also suggested that you may wish to bring along a quantity of gloves in case you are clearing / cleaning a particularly overgrown or unfriendly area! There are large quantities of cans, glass and broken bottles that need to be cleared from the car parking area. Regards & Best Wishes Trevor& Clive Trevor Banks & Clive Buckle Buckmore Park Site Managers parkmanager@buckmorepark.org.ukNews April 2008 - ‘The Situation So Far’Efforts continue to get The Park ready for this year’s camping season. Work has been going on in the ‘Activity Valley’ and the Air Rifle Range is now up and ready for use (many thanks to Martin Vinton & his team). We are trying to track down the old rifles that were at the Park but if we cannot find them then we shall have to purchase some new ones.
All of the above activities will require a team of volunteers to run them; even when the Park is fully operational we shall still need to encourage people to come along and help by volunteering. To that end we need to compile a register of people who would be willing to join the volunteer register; so if you hold the necessary permits to supervise or instruct Air Rifle Shooting, Archery, Climbing, or Caving within The Buckmore Park Cave System or would like to become an instructor in any of these activities please let me know so that your name can be added to the relevant list. Lots of hard work has been done over several working days to clear sites of leaves and get the sites that we are able to currently use for use or reseeding. That work is almost complete and it is hoped that (weather permitting) we shall be seeding on the next working party day which is planned for Saturday 12th April from 10 am until 4pm. If you are not members of Strood or Medway District Scouts and you would like to help please contact parkmanager@buckmorepark.org.uk in advance. We need vehicles and trailers to move stuff about The Park as we have to: -
We also need lots of people with shovels and wheel barrows to move stuff, and then others who may be able to keep the tea and coffee coming and help in less physical ways. We are also very aware that we need a proper Service Crew, a dedicated team of people who are willing to take on the tasks of keeping the site running when people are camping and to help keep things moving during the course of the year. To that end we are opening a register of those who would like to be included in that Crew. We intend to ask the two Districts first and then open it up to the rest of the County. Ideally we are looking for some people who can spend the occasional weekend camping up there when others are using the site, so that there is a recognised presence, someone / people who can help keep the place clean and functioning as well as being on site to resolve any issues that may arise. There will be opportunities for anyone who wishes to be involved, to do so at whatever level of physical ability or amount of time that they are able to commit to; so if you would like to be part of the team that is going to get Buckmore Park back where it belongs as being one of the best Scout Campsites in the South East (to start with) then please drop me a line with a brief note of what skills you have and the level of commitment you are able to consider giving (remember making tea and coffee is a very important skill). So to recap: - Wanted: -
If you fit the bill then please get in touch and let us know who you are and what you would like to do. If you know someone else who is then ask them to get in touch with us.Buckmore Park is your Park Help us to make it a great place for Scouting Finally, we would like to thank everyone who has given up time to come along and help out either at weekends or during the week. Roofs do not retile themselves and power supplies and pumps have to be tested when there is no one else about in case they go bang! Site visits have to be made and ideas discussed and plans made and rejected. There has been loads of work happening that you may not be aware of, but from which we will all benefit eventually.

All the campsites have been cleared of leaves by a large group of helpers from Strood and Medway Districts. Those sites requiring grass seeding have been roped off, seeded and will hopefully be ready for use in July. There are still plenty of sites currently available for use. As indicated in the last update below - work has started on a number of activites on site including rifle range, climbing and orienteering. Please look under activities for latest information. Work has alos started to allow us ot repoen our Second toilet block, which is actually far more modern than the one currently in use. The second block has showers and it is hoped that it will be available for use by July 2008. November 2007 Since the campsite reopened to Scouts and Guides in May there have been over 1000 visitors to the site. Whilst most of the visitors have come from local districts some have come from further afield. Athough the main camping season is drawing to a close the site remains open for day visitors and campers right through the year. If you wish to visit the site please see the bookings page. Over the winter it is hoped to get some activities up and running in time for the main 2008 camping season. If you would like to get involved with helping at Buckmore Park please see the opportunities page. | Register for updatesRegister for email updates from Buckmore Park Scout Campsite |
